Minutes of the meeting of the Virginia Society of Fire Service Instructors (VSFSI) held July 20, 2007 at 18:00:

  • Meeting called to order.
  • Sign in sheet passed around.
  • Status Update – Officer positions filled, still need division reps, web site up and running (needs to be renewed ASAP), plans for electronic news letter (mass email) coming soon, still growing membership, box of old VSFSI paper work being reviewed and archived.
  • State Corporation Commission Update – IRS Tax ID number (W-9) obtained, currently working on tax exempt status, & checking account.
  • Funds – Currently have about $200 +/-, will receive funds from Instructor college
  •  Annual dues are now due, still $20, pay and get your VSFSI belt buckle (2006 members also get a buckle.) Send checks to Sec/Trs Paul Hoyle

  1. Constitution & By-laws review and vote by current members only – Most recent const & bylaws were from about 1980. Only current members may vote.

  3. Planning for the 2008 fiscal event. Any ideas…? Instructor Conference/Seminar/Guest Speaker/Lecturer?

Minutes from second meeting - Feb 2007 Meeting at VA Beach Chief s Expo:

  • Completed transition from VTOG to VSFSI. Second of 2 meetings required for transition.
  • Announced VSFSI would receive all funds from the July 2007 Instructor College.
  • VSFSI will handle all bills associated with Instructor College.
  • Reported on current membership level.
  • Still growing membership.
  • Still looking for division reps.

Minutes of the first meeting of the Virginia Society of Fire Service Instructors (VSFSI) held 7 July 2006 at 2030.

 

Attending instructors agreed to form said society and that dues should be $20.00 payable by cash, check or money order. 

 

Attending instructors agreed to appoint the following officers to interim positions until elections may be held at a future date:

 

            President:                    Mike Armstrong

            Vice-President:           Lori L. Knowles

            Secretary-Treasurer:    Paul Hoyle

 

Attending instructors agreed to establish a Board of Directors  made up of the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary-Treasurer and a member from each district as aligned with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs.  Nominations are to be submitted to the President via phone, email or letter.  Date for closure of nominations is to be determined at a future date.

 

Attending instructors agreed that VSFSI is to take on all responsibilities formerly carried out by the Virginia Training Officers Group.

 

Attending instructors agreed that a website shall be established for VSFSI to be operated by Mike Armstrong and Don Hansen.  Said website shall be paid for by monies collected in the form of dues. 

 

Attending instructors agreed to accept the following Vision Statement until such time as it may be amended by a voting majority: 

 

The Virginia Society of Fire Service Instructors will be recognized across the Commonwealth of Virginia as an important resource for the professional development of fire service instructors.

 

Attending instructors agreed to accept the following Mission Statement until such time as it may be amended by a voting majority: 

 

The Virginia Society of Fire Service Instructors  will be the voice of the Virginia Fire Service instructor through the Virginia Fire Services Board and champion the professionalism of fire service instructors by providing networking opportunities.
